The Reno City Council recently approved 55 grants to local art and cultural organizations totaling $250,000 under the Parks, Recreation and Community Services Special Revenue fund and Room Tax Fund. The Council noted the intrinsic benefits citizens derive from art, services or events provided through these grants as their reason for approving the funding.

Every year, the Reno Arts and Culture Commission rewards the grant money to non-profit organizations. Grant applications are collected during November for the fiscal year beginning the following July.

The grants are awarded through the following categories:

  • Challenge Grants - These grants are designed to strengthen Reno’s arts organizations and their long-range financial stability. A total of $40,000 in funding was granted to three organizations.
  • Cultural Even Grants - These grants fund projects that take place in the Downtown River Corridor area, Truckee River Arts and Culture District or the University of Nevada Reno Arts and Culture District. The events must be free and open to the general public, including citizens and visitors. A total of $90,000 will be shared between 23 organizations.
  • Project Grants - These grants fund high-quality artistic projects, activities and seasons that have long-term benefit to Reno residents. The projects should reflect Reno’s unique sense of place and culture and be completed within the city limits. A total of $120,000 will be split between 29 organizations.
