A popular entertainment attraction is cutting Reno jobs.
Circus Circus recently announced its plan to cut 40 Reno jobs. The cuts are due to ongoing evaluations and adjusting labor demands, according to an article by KRNV. Employees losing their jobs come from all departments and range from salary to hourly workers. It has not been reported whether or not severance packages will be offered to workers.
There also has been talks of jobs being cut at Atlantis, where three people were fired last week. There are currently 21 open positions at Atlantis, and seven of those were filled last week. One hire was a worker who had been laid off from the Reno-Sparks Convention Visitor’s Authority.
“The cuts come at a time when the MGM Mirage, the parent company of Circus Circus and 10 other casinos, is losing money,” the article notes “According to the second-quarter results, company-wide revenue declined 2 percent. Gaming revenue dropped 4 percent.”
While occupancy rates are still close to 100 percent, the gaming, restaurant and bar sides of the industry have slowed. The Fitzgerald also recently announced its plans to close and lay off 400 workers, and International Gaming Technology announced its plan to offer buyouts to 500 of its employees.
